CSA Community Supported Agriculture
CSA Philosophy
CSA Community Support Agriculture is a new agricultural model built upon the relationship between farmer and consumer. CSA farms are partially or entirely supported by members who pay in advance for weekly distributions of fresh produce. By accepting the possibility that certain crops may do poorly or even fail, members share in the inherent risks of farming. This model demonstrates a commitment to the farmer, and it allows small farms to thrive in otherwise unfavorable conditions. Given the alarming disappearance of farmland on Long Island and across the nation, more and more people are abandoning the supermarket and joining CSAs.
CSA at Restoration Farm
Vegetable Share:
June-October
Full Share: $850 (picked up every week)
Half Share: $425 (picked up every other week) Pickups vary from week to week and season to season. View a detailed list of the actual pickups from the 2008 season.
Pick-Your-Own Berry Share
June-October
Raspberries & Blackberries
Offered exclusively to those purchasing vegetable shares
Full Share: $80 (picked every week)
Half Share: $40 (picked every other week)
As this is our first season with the berry share, we have no frame of reference for what members will be able to pick. Our anticipation, however, is that a full share will include at least 16 pints, and a half share at least 8 pints. The berry field is a quarter-mile walk from the tent where CSA members pick up their vegetables.
