Blackberries, 2021

DSCN1535.jpg quart for entire season

Blackberries ripen slowly over a long period of time—much longer than strawberries. Therefore, we assign a seasonal quota to give everyone a chance at picking. All full-share and half-share members, as well as share partners who have paid the membership fee, can pick the seasonal quota.

Don't think you like blackberries? You've probably never had a ripe one! Ripe blackberries are plump, dull, and pull easily from the branch. A berry may be big and black, but if it's shiny and shows any resistance when you pull, it's not ready. Ripe blackberries are unbelievably sweet, not at all tart.
