RENEWAL2025
October 6, 2024
Hi Everyone,
With just 3 weeks of CSA pickups remaining, it’s time to discuss renewals. I usually begin the process in late summer, but I’ve held off until now because despite repeated outreach to Nassau County, we still have no guarantee that our contract, which expires in January and must go out to public bid, will be renewed. The last we heard was that a request for proposals will be issued shortly. Given our 17-year track record, we’re not worried that another bidder will win the contract—we were one of only 2 initial bidders back in 2007, and we were the only bidder in 2015, the last time our contract was renewed. We’re also not worried that the language of the RFP will fundamentally change. Our take on the situation is that we’re simply stuck in a waiting game.
But now it’s October, and important decisions must be made. Will we plant garlic next month without the guarantee that we’ll be back for next season’s harvest? Yes, we will. Should CSA members renew their shares without a similar guarantee? That’s up to you. All renewal income earmarked for 2025 goes into a savings account, and full refunds will be available until January. We should know the status of our contract by then. For now, Dan and I are planning for the 2025 season and not worrying about the “what ifs.”
So, with all that said, we’re now accepting renewals. Here’s what to know:
-
All current CSA members will have their shares reserved until January 15, 2025.
-
Members who renew by November 16 will qualify for a bonus Thanksgiving pickup on Nov. 23 or Nov. 26.
-
Members can reserve their share, and qualify for the Thanksgiving pickup, with a 50% deposit. All balances are due April 1, 2025.
-
Checks are always preferred, but online registration is easy and welcome, too.
Thanks for everything, and see you back at the farm soon.
All the best,
Caroline & Dan
